The Divine: A Play For Sarah Bernhardt
Studio Theatre at Virginia Tech, Fall 2016.
Three locations. Three pilar institutions of Québec City in 1905. Three overwhelming powers about to clash.
Designed to capture the supremacy of the Church, the grandeur of the Theatre, and the systemic oppression inside a Shoe Factory. The concept behind the grey palette chosen for every element on stage (set, costumes, lighting), was to visually take the audience back, or actually into a Paul Nadar photograph, like the ones he took of Sarah Bernhardt herself.
