The floor treatment- a 15'x15' section of parquet, in the middle of a 3" plank wood flooring, vignetted to black on the edges- was a major element in creating the interior of the Victorian restoration house in Maple Ave., where Alison Bechdel's father, Bruce "lived his life inside..."

The entire stage was covered in MDF to make the paint deck. Base-coated in a light cream latex paint.

The parquet flooring went into a separate treatment, traced and painted only after the floor planks were done.

Once painted, a coat of reddish glaze was applied to the painted floor, to give both the planks and the parquet their warm quality. The vignette-to-black on the edges of the stage was done right after the glaze.

A coat of semi-gloss polyacrylic seal was applied to the whole stage -wood flooring and vignetting.

Replicas of a William-Morris wallpaper, onto four segments of wall, were painted in layers using handmade stencils.

A base-coat of latex paint, wet color blending, and a final coat of semi-gloss polyacrylic where the three steps to achieve the appearance of fine wood on the crown moulding and other wood applications.
The bookshelves received the same paint treatment.
